Existence of the Supernatural

You can try to prove or disprove the existence of the supernatural as much as you want.  The fact will remain, however, that certain people will always believe while others will refuse to.

According to an article from Fox News, a surprisingly high number of Americans, 92%, believe in God.  At the same time, only 71% believe in the Devil.  85% believe in Heaven, but only 74% believe in Hell. One can't exist very well without the other, so it seems that some Americans simply don't know what they believe.

A few days ago we were discussing the existence of wars within the spirit world during class.  As shown by statistics, many people don't know what they believe.  Teenagers especially are still developing their own answers, and a teacher can very much change the opinions of his students.  When one of our teachers stated that the supernatural doesn't exist, I was interested, but not in agreement.  He was stating as fact that there aren't angels or demons, but in the same way that a believer cannot present absolute proof, neither can a non-believer.

I didn't speak up because I have no solid proof of the existence of the spirit world.  I base my belief in God and the supernatural on faith.  The Bible says that "faith is being sure of what is hoped for, and certain of what is not seen" (Hebrews 11:1).  There is no way to prove, based on what we can see, that God exists.  I believe because I have seen evidence, through nature and through other people, that the spirit world is very much alive and working in the world today, both for good and for bad.

  1. I agree with you that there is no solid proof for either side if there is a supernatural or not. It all depends on what you personally believe.
One thing a disagree with is that you said that God cannot exist without the Devil; therefore you either believe in both or neither. In Judaism there really isn't a devil. There is a Satan in Judaism, but how Jewish people perceived Satan is different with how Satan is viewed by the people of the Christian Faith. So it is possible to believe in God but not in the devil.

  2. I think this is very interesting and I think that the people who said they believ in heaven but not hell, or god but not the devil arent confused but they are just optimists! I would love to believe in god(s) and the fact that there is some all seeing good out there who will watch over me but I dont want to believe in a devil, someone who is inherently evil. As far as the above list goes I believe in heaven, angels, and UFOs :D And btws i noticed you and david were squirming in class. You should have said something! Dont be afraid to speak up :)
