Body Language

Everyone says "um".  It's a word used whenever you're trying to think of what to say next, and a word that lets others know you're not done talking.  "Um" is a word that has a secret meaning behind it.  Body language also has secret meanings, especially when a person is flirting or attracted to another person.

As I searched for articles about body language, I came across a Cosmopolitan article.  Usually I don't read Cosmopolitan, but this particular article caught my attention.  It's about how men stand, talk, and act differently depending on how they feel about the others they're with.  For example, "whatever a boy aims his upper body at is the most meaningful thing in the room to him".  Whether he recognizes it or not, he is subconsciously sending a message to everyone around him that he is interested in a particular girl or item. If he's half-smiling, there's a good chance that "he's not being sincere". He is showing that he's keeping something from whomever he is talking with.

We all send similar messages through our actions, like by looking another person in the eye when we speak to him or her, or by standing up straight when we walk. If we payed more attention to our body language and to that of others, we'd probably be more successful communicators.
